We had a great time at the Peter Spivey Charity Golf Day in aid of The Hospice of St Francis and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. The day itself is arranged by Joel and his close friend who owns Peter Spivey Sports Shop in Hemel Hempstead. https://www.peterspivey.com/
The event in its 9th year of organising has for the last few years been hosted at Welwyn Garden City Golf Club. When the teams are out on the golf course I help set up the venue ready for the post golf fundraising activities such as the charity auction and raffle. This year I was able to support the day further by sponsoring a hole. On reflection I realised that last year at the Golf Day I was talking about one day setting up my own business and then here I was this year sponsoring a hole, bidding on a 4-ball and juggling far too many raffle tickets. It gave me great pleasure to support the day itself and these two wonderful charities even more.
This year we were joined by Lisa Herring – Rodgers from The Hospice of St Francis who did a presentation during dinner. She explained it costs £5million per year to run the hospice and all their care is free. The need for palliative care has increased by 40% and most of those patients’ preferred choice of death is at home. The hospice is always trying to come up with innovative ideas which is why they are creating a virtual ward with a multidisciplinary team. This way different professions work together to ensure patients have the same gold class standard of care they would receive at the hospice, from the comfort of their own homes. These new services simply wouldn’t be able to come to life it wasn’t for everyone’s fundraising efforts to support the charity. https://www.stfrancis.org.uk/
Following Lisa’s presentation everyone dug deep to support the raffle and auction where some fabulous prized were up for grabs. The Auction included Taylor Swift tickets, 4-ball tickets for Berkhamsted Golf Club, VIP tickets to Reading Festival and Hospitality Tickets at Watford FC.
We are proud to announce the Golf Day raised £8129.00 for both charities combined.
Next year the event will be even bigger and better than before celebrating the big 10th Anniversary so keep your eyes peeled for further details because you will not want to miss it.
